Armutlu köyü

The village of Armutlu is a mountain village in eastern Anatolia in Turkey near the border with Armenia . Armutlu is located in the Sarıkamış county in the Kars province .

Armutlu was originally settled by Armenians. The village had a total of 1,255 inhabitants in 2009. The villagers live almost exclusively from cattle breeding and agriculture. Often the sons of the families are sent to work in Istanbul or Ankara for a living.

The city of Kars is located about 93 km northeast of Armutlu. There are hospitals and other infrastructure facilities.

Infrastructure

The village has four small shops for basic groceries. A mosque has only recently been built for the Muslim village with the support of the state and residents, with donations from Turkish citizens from abroad.

There have been water pipes in every household for a few years. Telephone connections were only introduced around 1990. The village has a primary school.
