Süngütaşı (formerly Zivin ) is a village in the Sarıkamış district of the Turkish province of Kars . The Zivin Kalesi fortification dates from the Urartian era.

history

The Urartian inscription on the stele of Zivin (HCL No. 24) comes from King Menua . It tells of his campaigns against Diaueḫe and Erekua , Diaueḫe was made tribute but not annexed to the empire.

"Menua says: I brought to myself Šašilu, I [determined] this stone to [Ḫal] di , my lord."

From this it could be deduced that Šašilu was in Zivin. Arutjunian wants to locate Zuaini, another capital of Diaehe, in Süngütaşı.

During the First World War , Süngütaşı was captured by Russian troops in the course of the Bergmann Offensive on November 2, 1914.
