Arnd Morkel

Arnd Morkel (born March 26, 1928 in Mannheim ; † February 11, 2020 ) was a German political scientist . From 1975 to 1987 he was the founding president of the University of Trier .

Life

After the Second World War , which he experienced as a child and adolescent, Arnd Morkel studied political science, German studies and philosophy at the universities of Heidelberg and Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1960 he was with the thesis "political Hofmannsthal consciousness" at Arnold Bergstraesser to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1962 to 1968 he was a lecturer in political science at Heidelberg University. Afterwards he held professorial positions at the universities of Darmstadt , Freiburg and Heidelberg . In 1970/71 he was scientific advisor and professor at the Research Institute for Political Science at the University of Cologne . In 1970 he also became Vice President of the newly founded dual university Trier- Kaiserslautern . As founding president, he initiated the re-establishment of the University of Trier from 1975. He was also the founder of the political science department in Trier. In 1993 he retired.

For his services to the University of Trier, Morkel was made an honorary citizen of the University of Trier on the occasion of his 90th birthday .
