Arne Körtzinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arne Körtzinger (born June 14, 1963 in Bremen ) is a German chemist , marine researcher and university professor . He is the son of the artist Wilfried Körtzinger and the great-nephew of the painter, sculptor, writer and organ player Hugo Körtzinger .

Scientific career

Arne Körtzinger concluded a visit to the Clemens-August-Gymnasium in Cloppenburg 1982 with the High School and began two years later in 1984 a study of chemistry at the University of Hannover , which he in 1987 at the University of Kiel continued and 1991 the diploma completed. In the same year he became a research assistant at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven , where he took part in the "International Arctic Ocean Expedition 1991". Until his doctorate in marine chemistry at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in 1995, he was a doctoral student with Jan Duinker at the former Kiel Institute for Oceanography , today's GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel , where he also worked as a postdoc until 1999 spent. After lengthy research stays at the School of Oceanography, University of Washington , Seattle / USA and the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, he has been Professor of Marine Chemistry at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel since 2001 . There he has headed the “Chemical Oceanography” research unit since 2010 and was head of the “Marine Biogeochemistry” research area from 2015 to 2017.
