Arno Richter (born February 15, 1907 in Berlin ; † March 23, 1979 ibid) was a German costume designer , set designer and film architect .

Live and act

Richter had received his artistic training from Emil Orlik in 1923-25 and worked as an assistant to the set designer Rochus Gliese . In this role he was involved in various productions by Jürgen Fehling at the Berlin Schauspielhaus am Gendarmenmarkt .

In 1925/26 Richter assisted the architects Röhrig / Herlth with the construction of FW Murnau's Faust - Film, and the following year Hermann Warm with Carl Theodor Dreyer's legendary Joan of Arc film adaptation Johanna von Orleans . At Gliese's side, Richter made his debut at the end of 1929 as a co-architect in the film The Hunt for Happiness . In the following years Richter worked alternately as a costume designer and film architect, but both only sporadically and repeatedly accompanied by lengthy interruptions. Before the outbreak of war in 1939, he dressed top female stars such as Zarah Leander , Lilian Harvey , Lída Baarová and Brigitte Horney, among others .

His contributions to German sound film - film structures as well as costume designs - are consistently high-quality designs for A-films, including Arnold Fanck's SOS Eisberg , the Jenny Jugo romance girl years of a queen and the large-scale production Robert, which was awarded the Nazi title of "particularly valuable in terms of state politics and artistry " Koch, the fighter of death . It was to be Richter's last film work shot in Reich German studios before he left the country.

In 1939 he went to Rome and did artistic studies under Carlo Siviero at the 'Reale Accademia di Belle Arti'. In 1941 he participated again in film construction in Cinecittà (again a Jenny Jugo fabric). After his military service and subsequent imprisonment (1941-46) Richter decided in 1948 to emigrate to Argentina . There he earned his living as a portraitist and advertising painter until 1955.

Back in Germany, Richter designed both sets and costumes for the federal republican entertainment cinema, primarily for dignified historical material and home-style premium entertainment. From 1959 Richter was also active as a production designer for television.
