Arran Fernandez

Arran Fernandez (born June 14, 1995 in England ) is a British mathematician and university professor .

Life

Arran Fernandez never went to public school. He was home schooled by his father, Neil Fernandez, a PhD in economics . At the age of five he successfully completed the GCSE ( General Certificate of Secondary Education ), which is the British equivalent of the German secondary school leaving certificate . Two years later he passed the test again, with the best possible mark. With both achievements, he was the youngest graduate of these tests. Between 2008 and 2010 he graduated from the GCSE in English, English literature and French with top marks each and the A-level , the British Abitur, in mathematics, higher mathematics and physics also with almost perfect marks. He was admitted to the University of Cambridge to study mathematics in October 2010 at the age of 15 years 3 months . This made him the youngest student since William Pitt the Younger was admitted in 1773 at the age of 14. He graduated as Senior Wrangler , top of the class, making him the youngest graduate to ever hold this title. After a one-year master’s degree, he completed a four-year doctoral degree, which he successfully completed in 2018 with the dissertation Analysis in Fractional Calculus and Asymptotics related to Zeta Functions with Athanassios S. Fokas .

Fernandez has been teaching as a guest assistant professor at the Eastern Mediterranean University of Cyprus since the 2018/2019 winter semester .
