Arrondissement Pruntrut

The Arrondissement Pruntrut ( French Arrondissement de Porrentruy ) was an administrative unit of the First French Republic and the First Empire . It existed in the area of ​​today's canton of Jura in Switzerland . The main town and seat of the sub-prefecture was Pruntrut (Porrentruy) .

on 1793-1795 existed in Mont-Terrible the district Porrentruy with eight cantons. With the law of the 28th  Pluviôse of the year VIII (February 17th, 1800), the previous department was abolished and its territory was added to the Haut-Rhin department . At the same time, the law created arrondissements as new administrative units to replace the districts that had been repealed five years earlier. The Arrondissement of Pruntrut was made up of five cantons :

By resolution of the Congress of Vienna on March 20, 1815, the cantons of Audincourt and Montbéliard remained with France. The cantons of Pruntrut, Saint-Ursanne and Saignelégier were added to Switzerland and became part of the canton of Bern ; since 1979 these areas have been part of the canton of Jura .
