Arrondissement of Delémont

The Arrondissement Delsberg ( French Arrondissement de Delémont ) was an administrative unit of the First French Republic and the First Empire . It existed in the area of ​​today's cantons of Basel-Landschaft , Bern and Jura in Switzerland . The capital and seat of the sub-prefecture was Delsberg (Delémont) .

From 1793 to 1795 the existence Mont-Terrible the Delémont district with five cantons . With the law of the 28th  Pluviôse of the year VIII (February 17th, 1800), the previous department was abolished and its territory was added to the Haut-Rhin department . At the same time, the law created arrondissements as new administrative units to replace the districts that had been repealed five years earlier. By resolution of the Congress of Vienna on March 20, 1815, the territory of Switzerland was added. Most of it came to the canton of Bern , a small part in the northeast to the canton of Basel (since 1833 canton of Basel-Landschaft ), see the article Connection of the Birseck to Basel . The northern part of the former French administrative unit has belonged to the canton of Jura since 1979, and the Laufental moved from Bern to the canton of Basel-Landschaft in 1994.
