Arrouya

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arrouya is a red wine from the French region Sud-Ouest . In the dialect of the Béarn region, arrouya means red or reddish. The variety gives a light red wine of moderate quality and is therefore no longer considered in new plants. In the 1988 survey, a vineyard area of 80 hectares was raised, but it should have shrunk significantly since then.

Due to its linguistic meaning, Arrouya is also a synonym for the red grape varieties Cabernet Franc , Fer Servadou and Manseng Noir , with which it is not related.

A study published in 2007 shows that the grape varieties Arrouya, Camaralet de Lasseube , Camaraou Blanc , Camaraou Noir and Penouille are genetically very closely related.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very hairy white with a hint of carmine. The green young leaves are spotted bronze ( anthocyanin spots ).
  • The medium-sized leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are rounded, not bulged or five-lobed. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. Compared to other grape varieties, the teeth are set wide. The shiny leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered near the stem bay.
  • The slightly pyramidal grape is medium-sized, shouldered and with dense berries. The slightly ovoid berries are medium-sized and blue-black in color.

The grape variety Arrouya sprouts medium-late (approx. 5 days after the Gutedel) and thus mostly escapes the late spring frosts at high altitudes. It ripens 25 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen late. The grape variety is very sensitive to downy mildew and black rot of the vine .

Synonyms

The grape variety Arrouya is also known under the names Arhuya, Aroyat, Arrouyat, Arroya, Arruya, Rouja and Vieux-rouge.
