Artemio Casas

Artemio Gabriel Casas (born October 20, 1911 in Meycauayan , Bulacan ; † March 29, 1989 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman who was Bishop of Imus between 1961 and 1968 and Archbishop of Jaro from 1974 to 1985 .

Life

Casas was ordained a priest on March 20, 1938, and appointed first bishop of Imus on December 11, 1961 . As such, he received his episcopal ordination on February 24, 1962 by the Archbishop of Manila Rufino Cardinal Santos , whose co- consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia and Titular Archbishop of Nicopsis Juan C. Sison and the Titular Bishop of Mylasa Peregrin de la Fuente Néstar . He attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council between 1962 and 1965 . On May 6, 1968 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Manila and titular bishop of Macriana Minor . His successor as Bishop of Imus was then Felix Paz Perez .

Most recently, Casas was appointed Archbishop of Jaro on May 11, 1974, succeeding Jaime Lachica Sin . On October 24, 1985 he resigned as Archbishop and was then replaced by Alberto Jover Piamonte .
