Hsu Shao-chang

Hsu Shao-chang许绍昌 (born April 9, 1913 in Zhejiang Province , † 1999 in California ) was a Taiwanese diplomat .

education

He studied political science at the Central Institute of Political Sciences at the University of Nanking and at the University of Southern California .

Career

He joined the Foreign Service of the Republic of China in 1935 and was employed in the Europe and America Department of the Foreign Ministry in Nanking until 1937. He was Vice Consul in Los Angeles from 1937 to 1945. He headed the personnel department in the Foreign Ministry in Beijing from 1945 to 1947. From 1947 to 1948 he had exequatur as Consul General in Rangoon in British Burma . In Rangoon, British Burma, he was Legation Secretary in 1948. In French Indochina he had exequatur from 1948 to 1949. From 1951 to 1954 he was consul and chargé d'affaires in Tehran . In 1954, he headed the Taiwanese delegation for ten sessions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. He headed the America Department from 1954 to 1958. From 1960 to 1962, he was appointed Secretary of State. In 1966 he was a delegate to the 21st General Assembly of the United Nations in New York City. From June 1963 to 1968 he was ambassador to Rio de Janeiro . He was accredited in Rome and at the same time in La Valletta from 1968 to November 1970. From 1971 to 1973 he was ambassador first in Buenos Aires and then in Saigon .
