history

In 1812, Maria I (Portugal) imported Chinese workers to her tea plantation near Rio de Janeiro. In 1900 another wave of Chinese immigrants reached São Paulo . On May 4, 1943, the legation in Rio de Janeiro was upgraded to an embassy. On August 15, 1974, the Ernesto Geisel government recognized the Zhou Enlai government in Beijing .
