Nereu de Oliveira Ramos

Nereu de Oliveira Ramos (born September 3, 1888 in Lages , Santa Catarina , † June 16, 1958 in São José dos Pinhais , Paraná ) was a Brazilian politician.

Career

Nereu Ramos was vice-president from 1947 to 1951 under President Getúlio Dornelles Vargas . After Vargas 'successor João Café Filho resigned due to ill health and the military ousted his second successor Carlos Coimbra da Luz after two days in office, Nereu Ramos became president on November 11, 1955 to end Vargas' term. Nereu de Oliveira Ramos ruled until June 16, 1956. He was a member of the Partido Social Democrático, founded in 1945 .

Ramos died in the crash of Flight 412 in São José dos Pinhais near Curitiba Airport on June 16, 1958. The Convair CV-440 of Cruzeiro do Sul was on the flight from Florianópolis to Rio de Janeiro with stopovers in Curitiba and São Paulo . The reason for this was a wind shear on the approach, the machine became uncontrollable. All 21 inmates were killed.

Ramos was a co-founder of the Academia Catarinense de Letras and chose Jonas de Oliveira Ramos as the namesake for chair 22.
