Artemisia arborescens is a plant of the genus Artemisia within the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).
features
Artemisia arborescens is a shrub that reaches heights of 50 to 100 centimeters. The leaves are one or two pinnate, stalked, white tomentose and aromatic. The headstand is paniculate. The heads are many-flowered. The outer flowers are female and have a thread-like crown. The inner flowers, on the other hand, are hermaphroditic. The fruit base is hairy.
The flowering period extends from May to August.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
Artemisia arborescens , also called mugwort trees in German (in antiquity among other things also abrotanum ), occurs from the Mediterranean area to the Middle East. Its distribution area includes the countries Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel. The species grows on arable land, limestone rocks and old walls. In Crete it is found at altitudes from 0 to 500 meters.
