Arthur Achleitner (1922)

Arthur Achleitner (born August 16, 1858 in Straubing , † September 29, 1927 in Munich ) was a German writer .

Life

Achleitner was the son of the Straubing parish choralist Innozenz Achleitner . He sent his son to the local grammar school and the university in Salzburg very early to enable him to study for a teaching degree. After his father's death, Achleitner dropped out of his studies immediately and traveled to almost all of Europe.

From his first trip along the Rhine and Danube to almost the Black Sea, he reported in exciting feature pages of several large newspapers. In this way he not only financed the trip, but also found writing. This is how he became aware of him, and around 1878 the Süddeutsche Presse in Munich offered him a job as an editor . Achleitner held this position until the SP ceased its publication. From then on he lived in Munich as a freelance writer.

As such, he traveled the mountains from Bavaria to Styria in the summer months , where he was also a welcome guest as an enthusiastic hunter in the Wittelsbach and Habsburg hunting grounds. He addressed his experiences in his homeland novels , but especially in his hunting novels. In 1897 the Duke of Anhalt awarded him the title of professor and three years later, in 1900, the title of court counselor . Another three years later, in 1903, Achleitner was promoted to Privy Councilor by the same sovereign . On September 29, 1927 he died at the age of sixty-nine in Munich and found his final resting place in the Sendlinger Friedhof .

Arthur Achleitner was a member of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
