Life

Arthur Alexander Kaspar von Rex comes from the noble family of Rex . He was the second son of Count Alexander Caspar von Rex (1827-1870), lord on Zehista and his wife Olga, née von Möhrmann (* 1830).

Arthur Alexander Kaspar von Rex was u. a. Envoy of the German Empire in Caracas , Tehran , Beijing and Tokyo . In 1907 he tried to form an alliance between the governments of Guangxu , Theodore Roosevelt and Wilhelm II. In Tokyo in 1911, he dissolved the previous ambassador, Alfons Mumm von Schwarzensteinwho had to quit work due to an eye problem. During this time, the balancing of power political alliances in the East Asian region was particularly important, as was the clear observation of the development of strategic partnerships that developed between Japan and the USA as well as Japan and Great Britain. Germany's urge to acquire colonies in this area as well, to secure territories of influence overseas, had a not inconsiderable impact on relations with Japan. His term of office fell at the beginning of the Taisho period, which above all resulted in a strengthening of the military and the suppression of internal forces in Japan.

On August 23, 1914, 2:00 p.m. Japanese time , Rex handed over the Ōkuma Shigenobu government's declaration of war in Tokyo and the passports, thus establishing diplomatic relations between the governments of the German Empire and the Japanese Empire, which were based on the treaty of January 24th 1861 based between the governments of William I and Tokugawa Iemochi , were interrupted.
