Arthur Engler

Arthur Engler (born July 10, 1917 in Neustrelitz ; † March 28, 1990 in Emden ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life

The son of Captain Arthur Engler and Auguste, née Brodthagen, grew up in Emden and attended secondary school . In 1936 he passed the Abitur. He then did his labor service and military service. He studied economics in Freiburg im Breisgau , Geneva and Jena . As an officer, he participated in the Second World War . From 1946 he was employed by Ems-Schlepper-AG in Emden. He rose to the board of this company.

From 1966 he was chairman of the CDU district association in East Friesland. He was also chairman of the transport committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for East Friesland and Papenburg . Here he was a member of the executive committee.

From 1952 he was councilor of the city of Emden and took over the office of senator between 1952 and 1970 . Engler was elected from the fourth to the seventh electoral term as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, to which he belonged from May 6, 1959 to June 20, 1974. From July 8, 1970 until his departure, he was Vice President of the State Parliament.

Arthur Engler was married to Wilhelmine Engler, née Burauen, since 1943. He had three children with his wife, who died in 1976. In 1979 he married Ursula Benedix-Engler .
