Arthur Jones (musician)

Arthur Jones (* around 1940 in Cleveland , † 1998 in New York City ) was an American alto saxophonist of free jazz was warm for a high-energy game despite his tone known.

Jones initially worked for several years in a rock'n'roll orchestra. After discovering the music of Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy , he appeared on the New York scene where he played in the Frank Wright group ; he was also involved in his album Your Prayer (1967). He also worked with Jacques Coursil . In 1968 he became a member of Sunny Murrays Acoustical Swing Unit , with which he also went to Paris in 1969 . There he played two albums as a leader; Most of the musicians of the Art Ensemble of Chicago participated in the recording of Africanasia . He was also involved in numerous other recordings for BYG Actuel , for example by Coursil, Archie Shepp , Sunny Murray and Burton Greene .
