Arthur Langhammer

Arthur Langhammer (born July 6, 1854 in Lützen , † July 4, 1901 in Dachau ) was a German painter and illustrator .

Life

He initially studied at the Art Academy in Leipzig and completed his studies in Munich in 1882 . After completing his studies, he first worked as an illustrator . He went on a trip to Paris with his friend Adolf Hölzel . After returning to Germany, he stayed in Dachau for a long time , only to move there entirely in 1900. During this time, the artists' association “Neu-Dachau” was founded, which he brought to life in 1896 together with Hölzl and Ludwig Dill . After moving to Dachau, he created landscape paintings , the subjects of which he found in his home environment, as well as scenes from rural life. His poetic disposition is also reflected in his paintings. Some of his works can be viewed today in the Dachau painting gallery . The museum in his native Lützen has a collection of 32 drawings.
