Arthur Maxwell House

Arthur Maxwell House , OC (born August 10, 1926 in Glovertown , Newfoundland , † October 17, 2013 ) was a Canadian neurologist . From 1997 to 2002 he was Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador Province .

biography

After attending school, House completed a medical degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax and graduated in 1952. He continued his specialist training at the neurological institute at McGill University in Montreal and then practiced in St. John's from 1959 to 1966 as the only neurologist in his home province.

As such, House was instrumental in establishing the medical faculty at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, where he was professor of neurology and held various administrative positions from 1963 until his retirement in 1993 . He was also one of the world's leading pioneers in telemedicine and distance learning . For his services he became a member of the Order of Canada in 1989 .

Governor General Roméo LeBlanc sworn in House in 1997 as Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. He held this representative office until 2002. He has also served in numerous non-profit organizations such as the Newfoundland Art Gallery , Agnes Pratt Retirement Home and Memorial University Botanical Garden . In 2005 he was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada for his political, social and professional services .
