Arthur Melvin Okun
Arthur Melvin Okun (born November 28, 1928 in Jersey City , New Jersey , † March 23, 1980 in Washington, DC ) was an American economist . He was the first to deal explicitly with the relationship between the unemployment rate and gross domestic product . According to him, this is Okun's Law named.
Between 1968 and 1969 he was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers , a body that advises the US president on economic issues. Okun is considered to be the founder of the misery index .
In 1969, Okun was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
