Arthur P. Jacobs

Arthur P. Jacobs (born March 7, 1922 in Los Angeles , † June 27, 1973 in Beverly Hills ) was an American film producer .

Life

Jacobs was initially a press agent for Hollywood stars like Gregory Peck , Richard Burton , Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe before becoming a film producer in the 1960s. Until his untimely death he produced only 13 films, some of which went down in film history like the Planet of the Apes film series. As early as 1963, he acquired the film rights to Pierre Boulle's science fiction novel The Planet of the Apes , the filming of which every production company considered non-filmable. Jacobs' company, APJAC Productions, Inc. , however, successfully ventured into production. For Doctor Dolittle , he was nominated for the first and only one-time Oscar in the category of best film in 1968 . In 1969, he was also involved in Goodbye, Mr. Chips involved

His wife Natalie Trundy , whom he met while filming the second part, and married in May 1968, played in four of the films in different roles. Shortly after the end of production on The Battle for the Planet of the Apes , Arthur P. Jacobs died of heart problems.
