Arthur von Pongrácz de Szent-Miklós and Óvár (born June 25, 1864 in Biała , Galicia , † January 13, 1942 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dressage rider .

Life

Arthur von Pongracz joined the Austro-Hungarian army in 1881 . From 1904 he served as an orderly officer and from 1906 to 1908 as a wing adjutant to the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. During the First World War , he participated in various cavalry regiments .

In 1902 von Pongracz took second place at the first international dressage competition in history in Turin . He also started in show jumping and held the Austrian high jump record from 1913 to 1936 with 2.08 meters.

Arthur von Pongracz competed in dressage three times at the Olympic Games: 1924 in Paris on Aberta , 1928 in Amsterdam on Turridu and 1936 in Berlin on Georgine . In each of his participation he was the oldest athlete in the games. 1936 in Berlin, where he, now a major general a. D., with the Austrian dressage team in fourth place and thus his best placement, he was 72 years old and thus the second oldest Olympic participant of all time after the Swedish sport shooter Oscar Swahn .
