Arto Saari (born November 9, 1981 in Seinäjoki , Finland ) is a Finnish skateboarder and photographer.

Career

Saari first attracted attention in the skateboarding scene in 1998 when he took part in the Skateboard World Championship in Münster at the age of 16.

He demonstrated his talent in numerous video productions (411 VM # 32, Transworld “Feedback”, Thrasher “SOTY” etc.). His contributions in “Menikmati” (2000) by éS Footwear, as well as in “Sorry” (2002) and “Really Sorry” (2003) by Flip Skateboards were particularly groundbreaking .

Saari suffered two cruciate ligament ruptures during his career , each of which forced him to take a six-month break. After a knee injury that he sustained while filming the Flip DVD "Really Sorry" in 2003, his cruciate ligaments were replaced with synthetic ligaments. This new treatment method has already helped Danny Way to return to skateboarding professionally after a long knee injury.

In 2007 Saari left his previous sponsor Quicksilver to join Analog Clothing .

In 2008 Saari announced the departure of his long-term sponsors Flip and Etnies. Shortly thereafter, he joined Alien Workshop and the newly founded Gravis Footwear brand , which, like Analog Clothing, also belonged to the Burton Group. In 2009 Saari had a part in Alien Workshops "Mind Field", which was named Best Video of the Year by Transworld Skateboarding, while the Alien Workshop Team was named Best Team of the Year.

In January 2011, Flip announced that Arto Saari had returned as a team driver. Flip published a picture by Saaris with the slogan "Home is where the Hearto is". 2013 he found with New Balance Numeric , the new skate shoe brand New Balance , a new shoe sponsor.

Arto Saari is married and has one daughter. He has lived in Hawaii with his family since 2018 .

Honors

Saari was named "Skater of the Year" by Thrasher Magazine in 2001 and was also named "Street Skater of the Year" by Transworld Skateboarding Magazine in 2001 .

In a vote in 2004 , conducted by YLE , Saari was voted into the list of the 100 greatest Finns .
