Artur Śliwiński (born August 17, 1877 in Ruszki ( Kutno ), † January 16, 1953 in Warsaw ) was a Polish politician and Prime Minister .

Life

Regency Kingdom of Poland

The studied historian and journalist became a member of the Polish Socialist Party - Revolutionary Fraction ("Polska Partia Socjalistyczna - Frakcja Rewolucyjna") in 1906, before he joined the Polish Socialist Party ("Polska Partia Socjalistyczna") in 1914 . During the First World War he was from 1915 to 1916 chairman of the National Central Committee ("Centralnemu Komitetowi Narodowemu") in Warsaw , which requested Poland's independence from the Russian Empire . In 1917 he was appointed Secretary of the Regency Council of the Regency Kingdom of Poland . At the same time he became chairman of the party "Stronnictwo Niezawisłości Narodowej" (SNN).

Independence and the Second Polish Republic

After Poland gained independence on November 18, 1918, he was initially Vice President of the City Council of Warsaw, before he was Vice President of the City Government of Warsaw from 1919 to 1922.

On June 26, 1922, he succeeded Antoni Ponikowski as Prime Minister . As such, however, he only formed a transitional government, which handed over the official business on July 16, 1922 to Julian Nowak .

In 1924 he became director of the City Theater of Warsaw, before he was director of the Polish Municipal Bank ("Polski Bank Komunalny") from 1932 to 1939. Although he had previously largely withdrawn politically, he was a senator from 1935 to 1938 . During the Second World War he was a member of the Warsaw Civil Committee.
