Marian Zyndram-Kościałkowski (born March 16, 1892 in Pandėlys , † April 12, 1946 in Woking ) was a Polish politician and Prime Minister .

Life

First political activities and change of party

Zyndram-Kościałkowski, a member of the Polish nobility, joined the Union for Armed Struggle ( Związek Walki Czynnej ), founded in 1908, in 1914 and then, after the beginning of the First World War, joined the Polish Military Organization ( POW , Polish Polska Organizacja Wojskowa ) and the Polish Legion ( Legiony Polskie ) at. After Poland gained independence on November 22, 1918, he was a volunteer in the Polish Army ( Wojsko Polskie ) until 1922 .

In 1922 he became a member of the small farmers' party ( Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe PSL "Wyzwolenie" ), of which he was deputy chairman until 1925. In 1922 he was elected for the first time as a member of parliament ( Sejm ), to which he belonged until 1939 and in which he initially represented the interests of the PSL "Wyzwolenie". In 1926 he became president of the Labor Party ( Partia Pracy ) before becoming vice-president of the non-party bloc of government supporters ( Bezpartyjny Blok Współpracy z Rządem ) founded in 1928 .

Voivode and Prime Minister

In July 1930 he became a voivode (head) of the Białystok Voivodeship . He held this office until March 8, 1934. He was then from March 3 to June 28, 1934 City President (Lord Mayor) of Warsaw .

On June 28, 1934 he was appointed Minister of the Interior by Prime Minister Leon Kozłowski . He then held this office in the government of Walery Sławek until October 13, 1935.

On October 13, 1935, he became Prime Minister himself, succeeding Sławek . On May 15, 1936, Felicjan Sławoj Składkowski followed him in this office. In his government he was Minister for Social Welfare until September 30, 1939.

After the attack on Poland and the beginning of the Second World War , he first went into exile in France and then in 1940 in the United Kingdom , where he later died.
