Clemens G. Arvay (born July 22, 1980 in Graz ) is an Austrian biologist and author specializing in health ecology.

Life

Arvay was born in Graz in 1980. In an interview, he described the fact that his parents “took him to the mountains almost every weekend” as defining his childhood and youth. After graduating from high school, Arvay first studied landscape ecology at the University of Graz until 2005 . In 2007 he also completed his second degree in applied plant sciences at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna . Arvay then worked, among other things, as a quality manager for the organic brand "Back to the origin" of the Hofer supermarket chain . After that, in 2011 he briefly joined the Austrian environmental protection organization Global 2000 and has been working exclusively as a freelance non-fiction and specialist book author since 2012. Arvay is a member of the Expert Council of the Austrian Science & Environment Forum.

Create

In 2011 Arvay published his first non-fiction book on forgotten vegetables. The author became known to a broader public through his second book entitled "The Great Bio-Schmäh": In the work published in 2012, Arvay provided a "look behind the scenes of the ideal organic world", which was "calm and therefore also credible" be. In a few weeks, the book made it onto the bestseller list for non-fiction books of the Central Association of the Austrian Book Trade . In 2013, Arvay spoke out in another book in favor of curbing the “hunger for power of the food companies” in favor of regional, small-scale agriculture. In 2014 Arvay and Roland Düringer published a book in which they both discuss the “great philosophical questions in life”. As an experiment, Düringer renounced modern achievements and led a life like it did 40 years ago. In the further course of his writing activity, Arvay dealt again with the effects of industrial agriculture, in his book published in 2014 primarily with the artificial standardization of food by politics and business as well as the workings of large seed companies.

In “Der Biophilia-Effekt” (2015) and “Das Biophilia-Training” (2016) the author analyzed the healing properties of the forest . In it, Arvay proclaimed the “best fitness studio in the world” and the books became bestsellers . Under the title "The healing code of nature" the author devoted himself again to this topic. Specifically, he dealt with the positive effects of plants and animals on the human immune system . Among other things, Bunte praised the book as a “great introduction to human-nature medicine”. Another work is “Biophilia in der Stadt”, which deals with the effects of urban natural areas on the health of city dwellers. The foreword to this book was written by the brain researcher Gerald Hüther .

The following book by the author is entitled "With the trees we grow into the sky: Supporting autistic children with the healing power of the forest" (2019). Arvay is himself the father of an autistic child.
