Arvida Byström

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emma Arvida Byström (born October 4, 1991 near Stockholm ) is a Swedish model , photographer and artist .

Life

Arvida Byström grew up near Stockholm. Today she lives in London , Los Angeles and Stockholm. She has been a passionate photographer since she was 12.

Byström gained national attention through an advertising campaign by Adidas , in which she openly showed her hairy legs and campaigned for self-confidence in women, as she then reaped a shit storm on the Internet and even received threats of rape . Adidas assisted the model and called it "an honor to work with artists like Arvida because of their creativity, diversity and unique ideas".

Byström is also committed to free menstruation. According to her own statements, however, she does not want to make a feminist statement with her appearance , but has consciously decided against full body hair removal and free menstruation for personal reasons . She is of the opinion that one should not blindly follow any trends, but only one's own conscience and one's own feelings.

Byström works with Grace Miceli and other women at the Art Babe Gallery , where women in particular can exchange ideas creatively. This is to help other people identify themselves and their feelings. She also participates in the selfie stick aerobics.

Together with Molly Soda, Arvida Byström published the book Pics or It Didn't Happen: Images Banned From Instagram in 2015 , which shows 270 images that have been deleted from Instagram due to their revealing content . The book also explains that the female (upper) body is more often controlled and censored than the male body. Byström stated that it was a shame that almost exclusively white women took part in the project.

In 2014, self-portraits by Byström were shown in a separate photo exhibition in Limehouse in East London. Further pictures were shown in 2015 in the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf at the EgoUpdate exhibition . From January 12th to April 8th, 2018 some of her pictures will be on display in the exhibition Virtual Normality Netzkünstlerin 2.0 in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig .
