The Aschanti IV is a beautifully rigged classic German sailing yacht.

The Ashanti IV was the successor to the 1939-built Ashanti III in 1954 for the shipyard owner Ernst Burmester in Bremen on his Burmester shipyard according to the plans of the designer Henry Gruber built of the yacht Hamburg VI of the Hamburg association seafaring designed. At that time, the Aschanti IV was the largest German sailing yacht with a measurement of 24 KR and accordingly still bears the sailing mark 24/1 today. Until the 1960s it the unofficial function adopted in postwar Germany a state yacht , and had during the Kiel Week the President as a guest on board, from this point fleet parades of warships of the German Navy declined and friendly nations on the fjord.

The riveted, black steel hull of the Ashanti IV has an overall length of almost 35 meters, which includes the distance from the nock of the jib boom to the nock of the large boom protruding aft . With a construction waterline of 22 meters, there are considerable overhangs compared to modern yachts. Despite the width of 6.20 meters and a draft of a good four meters, the Ashanti IV is therefore only intended for the accommodation of six guests (in four cabins) and a crew of four to six. The sail area on the wind is around 460 m².

After the death of Burmester, Ashanti IV passed through different hands as ex Afaneti , ex Marie Pierre , ex Ashanti of Saba. It currently bears the name Aschanti IV of Vegesack with the home port of Bremen.

Aschanti IV was subjected to an extensive refit at the Fr.Lürssen shipyard in Bremen from 1991 to 1994. Woodwork was carried out in the hull area and in the rig and the latest technology was installed. In 2009 the entire mahogany salon was overhauled.

Ashanti IV of Vegesack sails under the flag of the Cayman Islands under her current owner .
