The Aschauer Klamm is a gorge south of Schneizlreuth in the Berchtesgadener Land district in Bavaria . It has a length of around 2.5 km, the difference in altitude is around 150 m with an average altitude of around 650 m. The Aschau stream flows through it and is located in the Aschau nature reserve .
Due to different climatic conditions in a small area, there is a diverse flora in the gorge. For example, numerous tree species thrive here, such as B. Swiss stone pine, larch, beech, fir and spruce.
The gorge can be reached after a 1 km walk from Schneizlreuth. The starting point is the Haiderhof restaurant . Narrow but signposted paths lead, often close to the water, through the gorge to Oberjettenberg and from there back to the Haiderhof.
Aschauer Klause
The listed Aschauer Klause is located in the upper part of the gorge . The Klausen in this area were used to accumulate the water of the mountain streams and thus to transport the firewood and timber from the high elevations of the mountains into the valley. The wood was primarily used to supply the salt works in Bad Reichenhall , which had an enormous need for firewood.
