Karen Van Dyck

Karen Rhoads Van Dyck (born January 25, 1961 ) is a neo-Greekist and comparativeist and Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Hellenic Studies in the Department of Classics at Columbia University , New York , USA .

Van Dyck since 1979 Modern Greek literature studied at Princeton University , the Wesleyan University , the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at St Antony's College of Oxford University . In Oxford it was in 1990 with a dissertation on The Poetics of Censorship in Greek Poetry, 1967-1990 at Peter Mack Ridge and Terry Eagleton and the external consultant Margaret Alexiou to D.Phil. PhD. After various teaching positions at Oxford University, King's College London and the University of Michigan , she was appointed Lecturer in 1988, Assistant Professor in 1991, Associate Professor in 1996 and Kimon A. Doukas Professor of Hellenic Studies at Columbia University in 2004.

Van Dyck works on modern Greek literature and culture, gender theory, the Greek diaspora and translatology . In addition, she has an interest in comparative literary studies and literary theory .
