Appearance and foliage leaf

Asclepias cordifolia grows as a perennial , herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 80 cm. The stiff, simple stems are often somewhat flattened on the sides, blue-green in color and bare.

The opposite, rarely threesome, lively leaves arranged on the stem are sessile, i.e. sitting. The tight-skinned or slightly succulent leaf blade is egg-shaped with a broad, heart-shaped blade base that surrounds the stem and a pointed or rather blunt end.

Inflorescence and flower

The flowering period extends from April to June. At the highest node ( Nodien are) of the stem and terminally doldigen inflorescences formed; they are multicolored to many-flowered and glabrous. The solid inflorescence stem is up to 7 cm long or absent. The thread-like flower stalk is 2 to 4 cm long.

The relatively small, hermaphrodite, radial symmetry , five-fold flowers are purple or purple. The five sepals are ovate-lanceolate, about 3 mm long and glabrous. The five petals are bent back. The petal lobes are 6 to 8 mm long. The white to light pink gynostegium sits on a short, broadly conical, approximately 1.5 mm high stem, which has a diameter of 2.5 mm. The staminal corolla lobes are sack-shaped, about 3 mm long, but trimmed with distinct lateral auricles (auricles). Interstaminal coronary lobes are absent.

Fruit and seeds

The upright on upright or downwardly curved stems, bare follicles are slim-spindle-shaped with a length of 7 to 12 cm and a diameter of 1.5 to 2 cm. The seeds are about 8 mm long, broadly egg-shaped and have a 3 to 3.5 cm long, white head of hair.
