Description and history

The architect Albert Bauder designed the building in 1887 as a meeting place for the Masonic Lodge Johannes for the rebuilt temple . The brick building with a stone base and frame structure has Gothic elements. On the east side there is a central risalit with a stepped gable . Fixed parts of the original interior have been preserved. The house contains a banquet hall on the ground floor. This is used, among other things, for public events. The so-called temple, the meeting room of the Lodge Brothers, is on the first floor.

The Ludwigsburg Lodge was founded in 1855 under the Grand Lodge Zur Sonne in Bayreuth . It has the matriculation number 369. The members of the lodge included the organ builder Oscar Walcker , who was admitted in 1897, and the writer and publisher Gottfried Josef Gabriel Findel , who belonged to the Ludwigsburg brothers' lodge in 1898.

The Ludwigsburg lodge brothers carried out the masonry and stone carving work on their new quarters themselves, which was inaugurated in 1888. They used it until April 20, 1933, when their lodge was forcibly dissolved. Two years later, the building became the property of the city of Ludwigsburg. Until 1945 the SA used the lodge building, which was also called the House of Humanity or the Temple of Humanity . In 1946, the Ludwigsburg Freemasons got their meeting place back and were able to resume their work.

In 2005 the 150th anniversary of the Lodge's foundation was celebrated.
