The Aspetuck River is a river in the southwest of the US state Connecticut .
geography
It is 17 mi (27.4 km) long and has its source in the hills of Huntington State Park at Bethel . Its catchment area covers approximately 1.7 km² (430 acres). The river generally runs in a southerly direction, passing Redding where it is dammed up to the Aspetuck Reservoir and also feeds the Hemlock Reservoir , which is located in Easton . Then it flows on through Fairfield and turns more strongly to the west in Westport, where it runs a little way parallel to the Saugatuck River before it flows into the same. It takes its name from the village of Aspetuck and the Aspetuck Valley Country Club , which it passes through. It has about 7 right and 5 left tributaries. The name is derived from the Algonquin expression for "river that rises in a high place".

Freetime activities
The river is one of the cleanest in the state with an AA rating. In addition to fishing, the river offers beautiful hiking opportunities through the Aspetuck Valley Trail, which runs along the river and, for example, crosses the Aspetuck Historic District .
