Assaulter was an Australian thrash metal band from Sydney that was formed in 2005 and split up in 2012.

history

The band was founded in 2005 by guitarist, bassist and singer Simon "Berserker" Turner, who previously worked for Deströyer 666 , and drummer Luke Bonic. In the same year a first demo appeared under the name Proselytiser , which included three songs. A short time later, AC joined the line-up as the new drummer. At the end of 2006 another demo appeared under the name Omnipotent . Under the name Subservience , Iron Bonehead Productions was followed by an EP in mid-2008 that contains two songs. Towards the end of the year followed the debut album Salvation Like Destruction , which was released on record via Iron Bonehead Productions and the German label High Roller Records . The CD version of the album was released on Pulverized Records in the same year . Then Hellfinder joined the band as a guitarist. A split release followed in 2009 with Trench Hell. A second album followed in 2011 under the name Boundless! at High Roller Records. In 2012 the band performed at Party.San , where Peter Hunt ( Razor of Occam ) was now the drummer in the band. In the same year the band went on a European tour with bassist Zoran "Crucifier" Mrakic , before the band broke up in the same year.

style

The band is often described as Blackened Thrash Metal, but an assignment to Black Metal is not correct due to a lack of references to Satanism . According to Brian Fischer-Giffin in the Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays dark speed metal in the style of Dark Angel . Diana Hunchback from Metal Hammer gave in her review for Salvation Like Destruction of the band to this old school -Thrash metal plays with influences from Black Metal. The band reminds me several times of Deströyer 666. Marc Halupczok from the same magazine arranged the music on Boundless! the Heavy Metal to. He also noticed tonal parallels to Black Metal. Steel Druhm from angrymetalguy.com described Boundless! as Thrash Metal with influences from Black Metal. In addition, elements from oriental music were also processed in order to stand out from bands such as Legion of the Damned . The vocals are reminiscent of that of Mille Petrozza at the time of Pleasure to Kill . The style is fast, heavy and evil. The song Slave to King reminded him of Melechesh due to the oriental influences and Outshine sounds like Razor's album Evil Invaders . A special feature is the extra-long eight-minute The Great Subterfuge . The album is reminiscent of the Thrash Metal of the 1980s, but the black metal influences prevent the music from sounding old-fashioned. The band sounds less raw now, whereas on the debut album they would have sounded like Hellhammer .
