Assemblers was an assembly plant for motor vehicles and thus part of the automotive industry in Ireland .

Company history

Ernest Bell had prior experience in automotive engineering as a director at PJ Tracy Limited . In January 1937 he set up his own company in Dublin . In the same year the assembly of automobiles began. The parts initially came from Hudson and Essex . In June 1937 sales and with it the assembly of Singer were added. In 1939 there was contact with Peugeot , but nothing came of it. The Second World War prevented the import of more parts, so assembly stopped after all parts were used up. Bell went on as a workshop repairing trucks . There is also the statement Assemblers Garage .

In 1946, the assembly of Hudson cars continued. From 1952 to 1953 assembly for assemblers took place at McEntagart Bros. and from 1953 to 1957 at Grange Motors . After 1957, Assemblers limited itself to the sale of vehicles. The brands Austin , Hillman and Morris are mentioned . In 1968 Fiat was added.

In the early 1970s, everything was sold to Joe Keane, who held out until 1975. It is unclear under what name Keane operated the company.

vehicles

Essex cars were certainly assembled in 1937, probably 1938 and possibly 1939. Hudson cars were made from 1937 to 1939 and then again from 1946 to 1957. The assembly of Singer vehicles only ran from 1937 to 1939, because from 1946 Motor Distributors and then Buckley Motors were responsible for this.

One of the 1946 models from Hudson was a vehicle with a six-cylinder engine rated at 21 RAC Horsepower . Hudson Pacemaker and Hudson Jet followed.

Production numbers

The following are Irish registration numbers for Essex, Hudson and Singer vehicles from the years Assemblers installed or had them installed. The numbers for the first year also include the assemblies at PJ Tracy, as splitting is not possible within one year.
