Astra Trans Carpatic

The company Astra Trans Carpatic SRL is a private railway company in Romania , founded, 2014. The main activity in passenger transport is the management of trains with dining, sleeping and couchette cars. The company is thus in competition with the Romanian state railway CFR Călători and other private railway operators in Romania. A pair of trains runs on the Arad - Schäßburg - Kronstadt - Bucharest - Constancea route. The company advertises with luxuriously equipped cars.

Routes and operation

Arad - Bucureşti North

On February 2, 2017, operations began on the route from Arad to Bucureşti Nord via Sighişoara and Braşov. The traction service is provided by the Servtrans company. Since February 19, 2017, a daily pair of trains has been running in both directions. The travel time for the 619 km long journey is around 13 hours and is therefore comparable to the travel time of the national provider CFR Călători.

Bucureşti North - Constanța

Since the 2017 summer season, operations have been expanded to Constanța. To do this, the trains must be overturned in the București Nord station. The travel time for this 225 km long section is about 2:15.

Timișoara - Baia Mare

The company started the service between Timișoara and Baia Mare on November 8, 2018.

Expansion plans

On the part of the majority owner Valer Blidar, plans were brought into play to want to serve the Timișoara - Vienna routes in the future.

Vehicle material

The company uses new rolling stock from Astra Vagoane Călători , which was produced in Arad.

The company uses DSB MP , which was bought by Danske Statsbaner .

Pricing Policy and Distribution

Tickets can be purchased either online via the company's website or at a sales counter in București Nord station.

The price is calculated from the distance to be covered plus a surcharge for the couchette or sleeping car reservation. Surcharges for “DeLux” compartments with their own shower are also offered in the sleeping car.
