Atanazy Benoé

Atanazy Benoé (born March 11, 1827 in Niegowić ; † March 9, 1894 in Vienna ) was a Polish landowner and member of the Galician state parliament and the Imperial Council .

Life

Benoé graduated from high school in Cracow in 1842 . He then studied agriculture at the Jagiellonian University until 1846 . During this time he participated in conspiracies and was briefly imprisoned, but was given amnesty in 1847 . After completing his studies, he returned to his property.

In 1846 he was elected to the Galician state parliament. There he was one of the moderate politicians who, together with the “whites” from Congress Poland, founded a citizens' committee in Krakow in 1862. During the January Uprising of 1863, he joined the National Committee for Western Galicia. In September 1863 he was arrested with Józef Baum , Karol Rogawski , Stanisław Tarnowski and Cezary Emil Haller and imprisoned in Lemberg . The court martial acquitted him in June 1864 due to a lack of evidence.

On March 14, 1882, he was after the death of Władysław Pęgowski in the House of Representatives nachgewählt. He was re-elected in 1885 and 1891. In addition, in 1893 he was elected deputy chairman and in February 1894 chairman of the Polish Club.

Benoé died on March 9, 1894 in Vienna and was buried in Niegowić.
