Ataraxy is a Spanish death doom band from Saragossa that was formed in 2008.

history

The band was formed in 2008. In summer 2009 she went to Moontower Studios to record a first demo under the title Rotten Shit . The demo was later re-released on Filthy Cave Records . A year later, the group hit the studio again while signing a recording deal with Memento Mori Records and Me Saco Un Ojo Records . The EP Curse of the Requiem Mass was released on the former label in 2010, before it was released a year later on Me Saco Un Ojo Records. The debut album Revelations of the Ethereal was published in the same way in 2012 and 2013. The first album on Dark Descent Records followed in 2018 and was titled Where All Hope Fades .

style

Hacker of voicesfromthedarkside.de described Curse of the Requiem Mass as old-school - Death Metal , which by many Finnish representatives as well as bands from other European was influenced countries. The songs are mostly in medium speed, with occasional outliers in faster realms. The music sounds evil, “unholy” and dark, which is supported by a scary-looking song. Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard found Where All Hope Fades to be one of the unusual Death Metal albums of recent times, as the music kept drifting into the atmospheric and sometimes progressive . This reminded him of a mixture of Chron's disease and Dark Millennium . The electric guitars would create “expansive surfaces and melodies”, which would make the songs much more atmospheric. The singing can be located either in a spoken word style that seems preaching or as a mixture of Martin van Drunen and Karsten Jäger ( Disbelief ). Sometimes there are long songs that are based on Doom Metal . One issue later, Edu stated in an interview with Schmidt that the group initially played traditional "dirty" Death Metal before trying to create their own Death Metal style since the debut album. According to Edu, “Death Metal with a dark touch with a lot of doomy passages and some dead, cold melodies” is typical for the band, with a high value being placed on a distinctive atmosphere without getting lost in a wall of sound . As influences he listed Demigod , Depravity , early Abhorrence , early Amorphis , The Chasm , Morbid Angel , Evoken and Skepticism . Where All Hope Fades “revolves around the close connection between life and death, viewed from different perspectives and enriched with different lines of thought”. Konstantin Michaely from Metal Hammer also reviewed the album and concluded that there wasn't much left of the simple Death Metal that was only played at the beginning. Instead, the music has been enriched with Doom Metal riffs and an oppressive atmosphere, trying to create a "sound panorama". The basic mood of the album is depressed , which is supported by the interspersed speech passages and whimpers.
