Morbus Chron was a Swedish death metal band from Stockholm that was formed in 2007 and broke up in 2015.

history

As early as 2005, Robert Andersson and Edwin Aftonfalk were rehearsing pieces by Metallica and Slayer after school at the age of 15 . However, after hearing a compilation that included Death , Possessed , Pungent Stench , Death Strike and Autopsy , they switched from Thrash to Death Metal. Chron Morbus was founded in 2007 and consisted of singer and guitarist Robert Andersson, guitarist Edvin Aftonfalk and drummer Stefan Johansson. In 2008 bassist Adam Lindmark came and completed the line-up. The first songs followed, which appeared as a demo Splendor of Disease in 2009. After that, Lindmark switched from bass to drums, since he was actually a drummer anyway. The band found their new bass player Dag Landin at a party after shouting into the room who was going to play for Chron's disease. Through the EP Creepy Creeping Creeps , the band reached a contract with Pulverized Records . In November 2010, the band recorded their debut album under the direction of Nicke Andersson , which was released in August 2011 under the name Sleepers in the Rift . The EP A Saunter Through the Shroud was the first to be released by Century Media . The first Century Media album followed in 2014 under the name Sweven . Performances with Triptykon and At the Gates were planned for 2014 . In 2015 the group announced its breakup due to musical differences.

style

According to the band's biography, the group was initially influenced by bands like Autopsy, Death Strike and Death. The later releases at Century Media were, besides Autopsy and Death, also influenced by bands like Voivod , Darkthrone and Atheist . According to drummer Lindmark in the rock-hard interview, almost all of the songs would be written by Andersson. They usually write them on the computer and present the raw versions with provisional bass and drum tracks to the other members. In Sleepers in the Rift , the band have yet Gore themes dedicated while on Sweven occultism thematizing. According to Robert Müller from Metal Hammer, the band play “Retro Death Metal” on Sleepers in the Rift and “try very successfully to recreate the youthful, boisterous Swedish sound of the early nineties”. The music is very reminiscent of Death Strike's. According to Müller, the music on Sweven was significantly more progressive, which was already apparent on A Saunter Through the Shroud , which was more progressive and psychedelic. Sweven is comparable to The Formulas of Death by Tribulation .
