Athanasius Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Athanasius Church was a church in Hanover , Lower Saxony .

history

The Athanasius Church was built from 1962 to 1964 according to plans by the architect Wolfgang Rauda . Inaugurated in December 1964, it was the youngest of three churches (next to the Pauluskirche and the Nazarethkirche ) of the Evangelical-Lutheran Südstadtgemeinde Hannover. The House of Religions has been housed in the building since the German Evangelical Church Congress in Hanover in 2005 . The church was divorced on March 24, 2013 . The church building was sold in 2015 due to the high need for investment in building renovation measures. It is still used as a house of religions and for events. Apartments are to be built in the upper floors.

Organ and bells

The organ was built by the Karl Schuke Berlin organ building workshop. The instrument has 34 registers on three manuals and a pedal . After the church had been deedicated, the organ was completely overhauled and moved to the church of St. Michael in Letter (Seelze) . The construction there was completed on July 13, 2014.
