The Kreuzkirche is a Protestant church building in Anklam . It was built 1953–1955 in the south of the city on Tuchowstrasse and is a listed building .

construction

The construction of the youngest Protestant church in the city began with the laying of the foundation stone in October 1953. The design comes from the Anklamer architect Kurt Buchholz and shows emphatically traditional, neo-baroque forms. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated for the harvest festival on October 9, 1954 ; The brick-covered plastered building was inaugurated on November 13, 1955.

The church tower with its pointed helmet is located in the north above the main entrance. Through it, the visitor enters a rectangular room, which is followed by the sanctuary.

Interior view of the Kreuzkirche

The octagonal pulpit with its simple canopy is made of dark wood and is located in front of the chancel on the left. The underside of the sound cover is decorated with a cross. On the opposite side is a wooden sculpture of Job carved by Gerhard Becker . The altar showing the crucifixion is to the south. The crucifixion group of the late Gothic sandstone winged altar, which used to stand in the Marienkirche in Anklam, is 120 cm high and comes from a workshop in Lübeck. In addition to Christ, the two thieves whose souls are taken by an angel or the devil are shown. On the southwest side there is a colored window with the image of baptism and opposite with the image of the Lord's Supper . On September 27, 1970, the Kreuzkirche received an organ from Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen .

Bells

On September 25, 1966 a new bell consisting of three steel bells was inaugurated. After 50 years these bells were badly corroded and the belfry showed signs of damage. The Athanasius Church in Hanover was abandoned as a church building and the four bells there from 1965 by Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling were given to the Anklam parish. Since June 16, 2016, they have been set up in front of the Anklam Kreuzkirche for installation.

Extensions

From autumn 2002 to November 2003, a community center was added to the church according to plans by the architect K. Johansen.
