Atlantic City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fremont County , Wyoming , United States . The population was 37 according to the 2010 census. The village is a small mining settlement in a mountain gorge near the South Pass in southwestern Wyoming. It was founded as a mine warehouse following the gold rush in 1867.
The place is now considered a ghost town after the number of inhabitants had fallen from over 2000 during mining times to well below 100 by around 1900. Since then there have been only minor fluctuations. There is little infrastructure in the scattered settlement. The number of long-distance hikers on the Continental Divide Trail , which leads across the ridge to the South Pass, has been increasing since around 2015 . Since then there have been limited shopping opportunities in town, the range of which is geared towards the needs of hikers.
