Atomic Twister - Storm of loss is a disaster movie from the year 2002 .

action

Single mother Corinne Maguire recently moved from California to Tennessee with her 11-year-old son Campbell . There she works in a managerial role in a nuclear power plant near the city . Campbell has since made friends with his neighbor Jake, a young deputy sheriff who can't help but occasionally telling him creepy stories about people who died in hurricanes . Neither Corinne nor her son suspected that Jake had to see as a little boy how a tornado tore his own mother from his hands to her death.

One day an unusually strong tornado hits the power generators outside the nuclear power plant and destroys them. The accident has fatal consequences, because the failure of the generators also means that the pumps that constantly supply the fuel rods in a spent fuel pool inside the power plant also fail. On evaporation of the cooling water, the fuel rods would be exposed and overheat - which inevitably lead to an uncontrollable meltdown and thus the meltdown would lead to the disastrous consequences for the whole area and its population would have. Corinne and her team start a race against time to avert the catastrophe.

Almost at the same time, the enormous tornado also destroyed Corinne's house, where Campbell was staying with his nanny. Corinne, who is not allowed to leave her job in the face of the impending disaster, begs her neighbor Jake to take care of her son. When Jake inspects the rubble of the house, he finds the badly injured nanny, but no trace of Campbell.

A resident can tell Jake that he saw the boy drive away on his bike to get to his mother as soon as possible. Jake then drives down the main street and promises Campbell's mother on the radio that he will find her son and take care of him. In fact, Jake is able to spot Campbell after a few kilometers on his bike and take it with him.

A short time later, they become aware of a man who stopped his car to help a woman who fell headlong down a slope with her vehicle. Jake rushes to the aid of the young woman who is trapped in her car. He realizes that it is his girlfriend Ashley who had an accident. Fortunately, she is almost unharmed.

Meanwhile, another threatening tornado is approaching, and the man who asked for help runs away in his vehicle. Jake uses the winch of his SUV to abseil himself and can rescue Ashley from her vehicle at the last minute before it falls into the depths and explodes. Campbell can use the winch to pull them up again.

The three of them make their way back to the nuclear power plant. Jake is informed over the radio that the driver of a diesel tanker truck has turned back for fear of the tornado. Jake takes up the chase and is able to stop the tanker by blocking the road with his vehicle. He forces the driver to get out and drives the tanker truck to the nuclear power plant himself.

The fuel is urgently needed for the operation of an emergency diesel generator in the nuclear power plant in order to restart the electric water pumps for cooling the fuel rods. At this time, firefighters try to cool the fuel rods in the basin with extinguishing water. However, it evaporates more water than is supplied; thus there is still the risk of a meltdown.

When Jake finally arrives at the nuclear power plant with the long-awaited diesel, Corinne Maguire immediately tries to restart the emergency diesel generator, which has been out of service for a long time, which she finally succeeds after some effort. The electric pumps start up again and the GAU was prevented at the last minute.

Overjoyed, Corinne Maguire finally takes her son in her arms and learns from Jake that Campbell is a 'real hero' because he saved the lives of Jake and his friend Ashley.

Reviews

“Writer Ron McGee apparently had no idea about the subject. How else could he write such an outrageous script? "

"Underexposed disaster film that never reaches a critical level to be taken seriously and also suffers from blatant theatrical defects."
