Corbin Dean Bernsen (born September 7, 1954 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor and film director who is also active as a screenwriter .

life and career

The son of the actress Jeanne Cooper studied after graduating from high school at the UCLA Theater Arts . After a few small roles, including in King Kong from 1976, Corbin Bernsen drew attention to himself in the soap opera Ryan’s Hope in the early 1980s .

His breakthrough came in 1986 with the role of Arnie Becker in LA Law - Star Lawyers, Tricks, Trials . For this, Bernsen was nominated twice for an Emmy and a Golden Globe . In recent years he has starred in Shadow of Passion and General Hospital, and has made guest appearances on several series, including Outer Limits - The Unknown Dimension , JAG - On behalf of Honor and Third Watch - Working at the Limit . Corbin Bernsen played USAF Colonel Henry J. "Bull" Eckert as the leading actor in the television series Countdown X - Alarm in Space (The Cape) .

Bernsen also played in numerous films such as The Indians of Cleveland , The Dentist , The Ring of the Musketeers , Death in the Mirror or Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang . For the latter, he was nominated for a Satellite Award in 2005.

From 2006 to 2014 he played ex-cop Henry Spencer , the father of the main character Shawn Spencer, in the series Psych . In 2005, Bernsen made his debut as a director with the comedy film Carpool Guy . In 2009 a drama followed with Donna on Demand , and he also directed a horror film with Dead Air . Other films followed, in which he also appeared as a screenwriter. He also works as a producer of his own productions.

Bernsen has been married to British actress Amanda Pays since 1988 . They have four sons together. In his first marriage, Bernsen was married to Brenda Cooper.
