action

Beth Williamson lives in Seattle , Washington and has been abused by her husband Tim for years. He also tries to isolate them and shield them from the environment, because he fears that he will not be able to present himself to others as a secure personality, which he actually is not. He tries under all circumstances to maintain this image for his own benefit, which he cannot do to Beth because she knows him. Over time, the abuse gets worse and their daughter suffers. When Beth wants to stand up for Laura, she is so brutally beaten by Tim that he is arrested for it. He is convicted and has to undergo therapy, but is soon released on probation .

As soon as he has left prison, he seeks revenge. He starts hunting his wife and daughter in the hope of forcing their return. He wants everything to go on as before and terrorizes Beth accordingly. This gets worse and worse and she flees to a women's shelter , which she has long avoided. Here she meets a fellow sufferer with whom she moves into an apartment and plans a future together. When the girlfriend is stabbed by the irascible husband in front of her eyes, Beth gets into a serious conflict: When she testifies in court, she also reveals her whereabouts to her husband. He hasn't given up on chasing them, but his friends and parents are now turning away from him. As a result, he experiences an additional humiliation, as everyone now knows what kind of personality he really is.

Tom is getting more and more mad. He decides to kill Beth and Laura and then himself. He has the crazy hope to have her again after death and to regain his power over her. Beth, realizing what will happen through her experiences in the women's shelter, decides to stop Tim in order to be able to save both lives. With the help of neighbors and the police, she finally manages it. Tim is arrested and imprisoned again, but the general problem of domestic violence in society remains.

criticism

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs straight) and judged: “A sadistic tyrant does not regret anything and has only one goal in mind: to destroy his wife.” “'I was his wife and was his victim' is him sensational alternative titles for this drama. Fortunately, the film is not quite as eye-catching, which is mainly thanks to the good leading actors. Nevertheless, the character drawing cannot convince. "

"Drama about the taboo topic violence in marriage, which refers to an authentic case."
