The Attachmate Group was a Houston- based software company specializing in terminal emulation , systems management , information security and the integration of mainframes and legacy software in modern computer networks . In addition to Attachmate itself, the company's brands also included Novell and SUSE .
history
Founded in 1982 in Bellevue (Washington) , the company produced hardware and software for networking mainframes with PC- based IT systems. 2004 acquired the Attachmate terminal emulator specialists WRQ in Seattle . The two companies merged in 2005 under the name AttachmateWRQ , and Seattle became the headquarters. NetIQ , founded in 1995 in San José (California) and specializing in systems management , information security and communications , was acquired in 2006 and the merger resulted in Attachmate Corporation . On April 27, 2011, Attachmate took over the computer network pioneer Novell for 2.2 billion dollars and thus also SUSE Linux GmbH in Nuremberg . SUSE is to be separated from the structure of Novell and continued as an independent line of business.
On September 15, 2014, British company Micro Focus International announced that it would acquire the Attachmate Group for $ 1.182 billion in treasury stock, subject to approval by antitrust authorities and Micro Focus shareholders. On November 21, 2014 the successful merger of the two companies was announced.

Attachmate was privately held and owned by a group of investors led by private equity firms Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital and Thoma Cressey Bravo. The number of Attachmate Group employees was over 3,000 at the end of 2014. The turnover was around 950 million US dollars , which corresponds to around 840 million euros .
