Attilio Zanchi

Attilio Zanchi (* 1953 in Milan ) is an Italian jazz bassist.

Life

Zanchi attended jazz courses with Giorgio Gaslini at the Conservatorio di Milano . In 1979 he became a member of the Open Form Trio with Piero Bassini and Giampiero Prina , with whom he worked for several years. From 1980 he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Banff and the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, where he perfected his bass training with Dave Holland . He stepped here u. a. with Karl Berger , George Lewis , Sam Rivers , Jimmy Giuffre , Ed Blackwell , Lee Konitz , Kenny Wheeler , Jack DeJohnette and John Abercrombie .

In 1981 he was a guest at the Woodstock Jazz Festival with Baikida Carroll , Julius Hemphill , Ed Blackwell , Naná Vasconcelos , Collin Walcott , Dewey Redman and Howard Johnson and the Woodstock Workshop Orchestra . After returning to Italy, he became a member of the Milan Jazz Quartet and began working with Franco D'Andrea and Paolo Fresu .

From 1987 to 1997 Zanchi worked with Tiziana Ghiglioni . In 1997 and 1998 he toured with Bobby Watson's quartet . In 1999 he toured with Sheila Jordan , Nancy King and David Linx and took part in Eugenio De Mello's dance project Cucine at the Brescia Festival. He played on more than 80 albums as a sideman and released six albums under his own name.

Zanchi teaches jazz music at the Conservatories of Naples, Trieste, Potenza and Brescia and has published several textbooks on jazz and double bass playing.
