"AUAWIRLEBEN" is an international theater festival that takes place annually in Bern . The festival is about contemporary theater. Venues are u. a. the Schlachthaus Theater Bern , Dampfzentrale Bern , Vidmarhallen and the Tojo Bern .
history
The festival was founded in 1982. Initially, mainly theater productions from German-speaking countries were invited. Later productions from all over Europe representing contemporary contemporary theater were brought to Bern. The background of the festival is to connect the boundaries between off, offoff and institutional facilities. Beatrix Bühler directed or co-directed the festival from 1985 to 2014 and shaped it significantly. AUAWIRLEBEN has been headed by Nicolette Kretz since June 2014. In May 2014 the festival received the theater award from the Federal Office for Culture .
