Aubin Blanc

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aubin Blanc is an autochthonous white wine variety from the Lorraine region in France . The early ripening variety produces wines of a rather simple quality and is therefore rarely found. In the Côtes de Toul designation of origin , it is one of the permitted varieties. Smaller experimental plantings are known in Canada. Aubin Blanc emerged from a spontaneous crossing of Savagnin and Gouais Blanc and is therefore very closely related to the Petit Meslier variety.

Parentage: Savagnin × Gouais Blanc

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is hairy with white wool and has a crimson tinge. The yellowish young leaves are lightly hairy.
  • The leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are three-lobed and deeply indented. The stalk bay is often closed in a V-shape and the leaf ends overlap. The leaf margin is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide compared to other grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called the leaf blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is small to medium-sized, winged and dense berries. The rounded berries are small. When fully ripe they are whitish-golden yellow in color.

The Aubin Blanc grape variety ripens approx. 5 - 10 days after the Gutedel grape variety and thus belongs to the grape varieties of the early first ripening period (see the chapter in the article grape variety). It is one of the early maturing varieties. Aubin Blanc is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is self-fruiting. In viticulture , therefore, there is no economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yields.

Synonyms

Aubin blanc is also known under the names Albin Blanc, Aneb ben Cadi, Aubier, Aubin, Blanc de Creuë, Blanc de Magny and Gros Vert de Crenay.
